Position Summary
The Court Justice Advocate will provide targeted advocacy, assist survivors in understanding the court system, criminal prosecutions, and the role of survivors/witnesses, as well as safety plan and facilitate or refer participants to advocacy support groups for domestic violence survivors surrounding empowerment and knowledge of the criminal justice system
Days/Hours
40hrs/week; Monday - Friday, 8a-5p or reflective of courthouse hours; flexible schedule is required as agency needs change. All employees of Women in Distress are considered “essential” and as such may be required to be available to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times.
Qualifications/Skills

Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) or a related field and minimum three years of relevant experience. Case management or criminal justice/ legal experience preferred.

Valid Florida driver’s license. Safe driving record. Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance.

Bilingual preferred (Spanish/Creole/Portuguese)
Essential Job Functions

The Court Justice Advocate is responsible for providing services at the Broward County Courthouse and Women In Distress' Main Campus as well as Satellite locations.

The Court Justice Advocate will provide targeted advocacy, assist survivors in understanding the court system, criminal prosecutions, and the role of survivors/witnesses, as well as safety plan and facilitate or refer participants to advocacy support groups for domestic violence survivors surrounding empowerment and knowledge of the criminal justice system.

The Court Justice Advocate is also available to accompany or use WID transportation to escort domestic violence survivors registered in Residential and Outreach programs to civil and criminal court proceedings, if needed.

Additionally, the Court Justice Advocate is responsible to inform survivors of their rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which identifies domestic violence as a crime and allows for orders of protection and criminal charges.

The Court Justice Advocate will facilitate and assist with the completion of services available at the courthouse, mandated forms and available public justice resources

The Court Justice Advocate is also responsible to work in partnership with their supervisor to create and build partnerships with key court system administrators and departments to build the support network for domestic violence survivors, monitor the response of the court system to domestic violence cases to improve needed processes, and refer, connect and register domestic violence survivors for additional services to Women In Distress through the Residential and Outreach programs.

In addition, the Court Justice Advocate ensures that all services provided are empowerment based and are consistent with the DCF Domestic Violence Program (DVP) standards.

Employee will be required to take the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
