Residential Therapist (Family Focused)

Location: Women in Distress Emergency Shelter
Compensation:$28.00/hr. commensurate with experience and licensure

Position Summary

Provides support and crisis intervention to children age 0-17 and their non-offending caregiver/legal guardian in a residential setting. Facilitates individual, group, and family therapy sessions using play therapy techniques and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.

Days/Hours

Wednesday – Sunday, Full-time 40 hours per week to include some flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Required Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related field.
  • At minimum a Provisional intern license for Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist by the State of Florida Boards.
  • Experience in play therapy, infant mental health, Child Parent Psychotherapy or other similar child/family therapy model preferred.
  • Clinical experience providing therapeutic services to infants/toddlers and their caregivers/legal guardians.
  • Background in early childhood development or basic understanding of appropriate parent-infant dynamics.
  • Safe driving record. Proof of automobile liability insurance.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Completes bio-psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, safety plans, and goal reviews as required. Uses psycho-education with parents/legal guardians to build healthy attachments with their children and increase knowledge of developmental stages/needs of infants/toddlers. Serves as an agency representative to community organizations whose primary effects are targeted toward meeting children’s needs.
  • Works closely with the non-offending parent/legal guardian and other advocates to identify the appropriate community services for children/family including educational, social services, legal, medical and other needs. In conjunction with the Director of Outreach Services, works to create programs and an environment of best practices for working with children ages 0-5 who have been affected by domestic violence.
  • Reports child abuse as required and notifies supervisor. The Residential Therapist will ensure that all services provided are empowerment-based and are consistent with Florida Domestic Violence Coalition (FLDVC) standards.   • Upon hire, candidate will be required to take the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
