On November 11th, 2024, we gathered at the beautiful Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale for the “Lucky 11th” Charity Golf Tournament, hosted by the incredible Phyllis Thomas and the Thomas Family Foundation. The energy was electric, the purpose was profound, and thanks to our incredible supporters, we raised a historic amount—the most ever for this event! These funds will make an extraordinary difference in the lives of survivors at Women In Distress (WID), empowering them to rebuild their lives with hope and dignity.
A Day of Impact, Unity, and Celebration
The day began with 18 holes of golf, filled with camaraderie and friendly competition as participants enjoyed course contests and stunning views. The tournament continued with a lively luncheon where we concluded our silent and live auction, featuring exclusive items that sparked excitement and generosity among our attendees. Every bid contributed to the life-changing work we do at WID. Most importantly, the event created space for meaningful conversations, highlighting the importance of supporting survivors and their families as they take steps toward a brighter future.
We were honored to welcome Ali Kessler was our keynote speaker, and her moving and intimately personal discussion about the need for Greyson’s Law captivated us all. Ali’s courage and advocacy have not only brought national attention to the critical need for child protection laws but also profoundly inspired everyone in attendance. Her words reminded us of the power of resilience and the importance of standing together to make change possible.
Honoring Our Veterans
With the event taking place on Veterans Day, we took a moment to reflect and honor the service of our veterans. In a beautiful display of unity and gratitude, all attendees dressed in red, white, and blue, symbolizing our collective appreciation for the sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
Special Thanks to Our Champions
This extraordinary day would not have been possible without Phyllis Thomas, the visionary behind this event. Her passion, dedication, and unwavering support for Women In Distress have genuinely transformed lives. We also extend our deepest gratitude to Bobbi Thompson, Phyllis’s indispensable right-hand lady. Their leadership and hard work have made the “Lucky 11th” tournament a resounding success.
To our sponsors, donors, and attendees, thank you for your generosity and belief in our mission. Your contributions are directly helping survivors—both adults and children—find safety, healing, and hope. Because of you, they can take new steps toward health, happiness, and self-sufficiency.
A Monumental Milestone
This year’s “Lucky 11th” Charity Golf Tournament was monumental. Not only did we surpass our fundraising goals, but we also strengthened our community’s commitment to ending domestic violence and supporting survivors in their journey to recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, the Women In Distress Team thanks you for your support. Together, we are changing lives, one step at a time. Here’s to continued success and the difference we will make together in the years to come!
With gratitude,
Linda Parker and the Women In Distress Team
