Associate Director of Development, Events & Annual Fund

Location: Jim and Jan Moran Family Center, Deerfield Beach, FL
Compensation:$50,000-60,000 per year
Reports To:Chief Development Officer

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Director of Events & Annual Fund leads the Development Team in planning, organizing, and conducting efforts related to annual fund initiatives (direct mail, donations drives, etc.), events (three major annual fundraising events and other, smaller, events) and social media. The Associate Director of Events & Annual Fund helps support staff at Women In Distress’ Thrift Store.


General office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:30pm. Requires scheduling flexibility as evening and weekend work is occasionally needed to support the team and meet the needs of the agency. Includes remote options.


  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in a field such as English, Communications or Marketing preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in sales, customer service or, preferably Development/Fundraising.
  • Exceptionally strong verbal, written, and spoken communication skills.
  • Must possess a mature understanding of Development best practices.
  • Must have outstanding leadership skills and experience.
  • Must work well in a very fast-paced team environment.
  • This position involves periods of evening and weekend work; this work often involves physically demanding work (i.e., setting up for events).
  • Must be an intentional and proactive communicator who is passionate about supporting Women In Distress’ mission to end domestic violence and abuse for everyone through education, intervention, and advocacy.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license. Safe/Acceptable driving history. Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for overseeing current annual fund activities and implementing a strategic plan for annual fund growth.
  • Serves as primary point person for the coordination and implementation of annual events including: a.) Annual Golf Tournament (fall) b.) Women’s Empowerment Forum (Winter) c.) Starfish Luncheon (spring)
  • Is responsible for, and actively involved in, securing sponsorships for events and various initiatives throughout the year.
  • Serves as primary Development coordinator for annual donation drives including: a.) Back to School b.) Thanksgiving c.) Holiday
  • Responsible for Development communications including: a.) Development and execution of a social media strategy b.) Periodic constituent updates from WID/CEO c.) Periodic newsletter to WID stakeholders
  • Meets monthly and annual goals for incremental increases in both the number of donors and cumulative amount of donations secured.

  • Work as part of a dynamic Development team, accepting regular assignments as needed even when not specifically delineated in this job description.
  • Facilitate optimal utilization of volunteers in the Development area.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Responsible for regular donor stewardship.
  • Supervises Director of Graphic Design; Development Coordinator.
  • Helps support staff at Women In Distress’ Thrift Store.
